Here's the scoop! You go the the website on Mondays around 4PM & follow the steps in purchasing a basket for $15.00...then come the following Saturday go to your pick up location and get your baskets worth 25lbs of produce!
This is the new "Keep Cool" bag I purchased from Costco for picking up my produce...some people bring coolers or laundry baskets or even just grab a box from the location. I couldn't believe my whole basket fit in here, even the watermelon!
Just so you can see how big this bag really is! (Levi had to try it out!)
This is all the produce you receive! Look how YUMMY! Banana's, Red Peppers, 2-Spinach, Roman Lettuce, Corn on the Cob, Cauliflower, Apples, Tangerine's, Mango's, Watermelon, and Tomatoes! My Fridge it FULL!
So, I added it all up.....& the total cost of this basket of produce is....$43.78!!!! No Lie! I was at the store (Walmart) this morning afterwards & took the time to weigh, & price everything...the peppers, corn, mango's & watermelon are something I wouldn't normally be able to buy right now because they cost so much...not bad for $15 Bucks!!!
Okay, what's the catch you ask? There is one small one! Because it's all done by volunteer so they can give us this great price you have to help out at least once per month...or one time for every three that you go! It's no big deal really, you go one hour before your pick up time & help set fruit or veggies in the basket! My kids love taking turns going and getting to be the box runners! They run the empty boxes from the produce to the pile for people to help take home for recycling or use for taking their produce! It's a great way for them to help be a part of the community in a small way!
What a great way for us to eat healthy! And spend next to nothing on produce!
Any ways! If you need any help getting started with your own basket let me know...I'm happy to help!
P.S.
It's a little ways a way, but my Sister In-Law is going to be running her own pick up location at Bloomington Elementary starting next week & rumour has it she brings doughnuts for her volunteers! :) Come Volunteer with us!
